The Foundation is considered to be the heartbeat of the embodiment of Frontier Nursing Service. It is through the Foundation that donations are made, equipment is purchased for the rural clinics, bequests are honored and scholarships are formed. The ideal of its mechanism; Donations can be restricted to a particular purpose or area of FNS. For example, someone can make a donation of $20.00 and request that it be directed to the Christmas Fund to buy toys for children and presents for area families in need.

FNS operates The Mary Breckinridge Hospital and five rural healthcare clinics: Anne Wasson Rural Healthcare, Beech Fork Rural Healthcare, Christian Family Healthcare, Community Healthcare Center and Kate Ireland Rural Healthcare.

Maybe you have an interest in the future of nursing? A donation can be restricted to The Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing (FSMFN) - the largest midwifery school in the United States. FSMFN also has several different donor supported scholarship funds that financially assist students: The Anne Wasson Scholarship Fund, The Kitty Ernst Scholarship Fund and The Mardi Perry Scholarship Fund.

The Mary Breckinridge Home Health Agency provides health care and other related services to the patient in his/her home, under the direction of the patient's physician.

Wendover is the historic headquarters of the Frontier Nursing Service. Mrs. Breckinridge’s home, the Big House, is located at Wendover. In 1991, the Big House was recognized as a National Historic Landmark and in 2001, it was certified as a Bed and Breakfast.

FNS also has a large variety of Planned Giving options.

If a donation is made with no restrictions, that donation is placed into the General Fund and your gift will be applied to other needs.

Donations are often received as a response from our Quarterly Bulletin, which gives an account of the work and activities of Frontier Nursing Service. Each edition of the Quarterly Bulletin lists “Special Needs” which range from Littman Stethoscopes to water piks to electronic thermometers, depending on what the clinics and departments see as a special need. The Quarterly Bulletin is as old as the FNS itself. The first Quarterly Bulletin was printed in 1925. If you would like to subscribe to the Quarterly Bulletin, please contact us at (606) 672-2317 or by email at fnstours@yahoo.com.

Mary Breckinridge based her work for the Service on providing healthcare for the entire family. We would be honored though your gifts and support to welcome you as a member of the FNS family. Together, we can carry on the legacy Mrs. Breckinridge started over 80 years ago.
