Significant Accomplishments

The following is an update of accomplishments across the organization over the last year:

Mary Breckinridge Hospital:

The newly renovated W.W. Hall, Jr. Center for Mothers and Children was opened during February. Since February, our nurse-midwives and physicians have delivered over 65 births.
The Business Office relocated to Main Street in Hyden during the Month of June. The building also houses two apartments used for healthcare providers.
The Hospital second floor balconies have been renovated and re-opened to allow patients and their families to enjoy the outdoors.
The Hospital now offers mobile Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) services. Patients no longer have to travel long distances for an MRI.

Rural Healthcare Centers:

Implementation of drug addiction treatment program.
Relocation and transition of recently acquired Red Bud Clinic to Christian Family Healthcare/Rural Health Clinic.
Expansion of Kate Ireland Healthcare Center in order to accommodate increased patient load.

Frontier School of Midwifery & Family Nursing (FSMFN):

Launched the AND-MSN Bridge Program allowing nurses with Associate Degrees to enroll at the FSMFN and bridge directly into the graduate program. Students complete six Bridge courses and then begin coursework to complete the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree.
FSMFN was awarded a three year grant from the Advanced Education Nursing Program of the Health Resources and Services Administration. This grant will provide over $700,000 to the school to help expand the AND-MSN Bridge entry option.
Faculty began work to design the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) curriculum. The DNP will be offered to master’s trained nurses beginning in the fall of 2008.
Enrollment has tripled since accreditation was gained to offer the MSN degree. Over 500 students are currently enrolled.

Wendover:

By December (2007), approximately 2,500 guests will have visited Wendover for overnight stays, luncheons, dinners and special functions.
Development of the Jane Leigh Powell Gardens.
