If you are looking for seclusion and desiring to steal away from the busy life, this is the place for you. This two-story rustic log home is the perfect place to get away from it all. The Bed and Breakfast is steeped with tradition from its displays of heroine nurses to it roaring fireplace. Guests travel from all over the United States to be a part of this historical and inspiring experience.

The beautiful log home known as the Big House was built in 1925 by Pioneer Nurse, Mary Breckinridge, founder of the Frontier Nursing Service. When it was completed in 1925, Mrs. Breckinridge held an open house and invited everyone in Leslie County to come and be a part of the celebration. To Mrs. Breckinridge’s surprise, nearly 500 people showed up, the majority of them on horseback. In 1991 the Big House became National Historic Landmark.

The Bed and Breakfast Inn has eight guest rooms: Four rooms in the Big House and four in the Wendover Barn. The Barn at one time was where FNS horses were kept. Today it is the home of our Wendover Gift Shop/Historical Photo Gallery. Our guests love browsing the Gift Shop looking at FNS memorabilia and crafts made by local craft artisans.

Your stay at the Wendover Bed and Breakfast includes a hearty country breakfast served in the “dogtrot" dining room, surrounded by beauty and history. The Big House is a licensed Bed and Breakfast Inn.

Guest Rooms - The Big House

The Queen Room has a queen-size bed with a painting of Mrs. Breckinridge's Grandfather, John C. Breckinridge above the headboard. An attaching Sleeping Porch makes this guest room perfect for families!

The Twin Room features two twin beds and a beautiful sewing rocker.

The Staff Room was where Mrs. Breckinridge took care of her staff when they were ill. Sometimes staff stayed here on vacation. With a picturesque view of the Middle Fork of the Kentucky River, it is the ideal place for rest and relaxation!

The Mary Breckinridge Room is Mrs. Breckinridge's bedroom. Copies of her nursing diplomas and several of her pictures adorn the walls.

The second floor of the Barn contains four rooms with two twin beds each.

All rooms in the Wendover Bed and Breakfast Inn have free wireless internet access.

Wendover Bed & Breakfast Inn Policies

• Wendover does not provide long term housing (policy of FNS, Inc.). Long term housing defined as any type of guest requesting to stay more than three consecutive nights.
• Complimentary breakfast is provided for overnight guests.  Our delicious home-cooked dinner is also available for $18 per person. This price includes beverage and dessert. Please let us know if  you would like this option upon placing your reservation.
• Reservations must be made one week prior to arrival. This policy is to ensure that adequate staff is available.
• Parking is restricted to the guest parking area called in Pig Alley at the entrance of Wendover.
• No pets are allowed on the Wendover grounds.
• No smoking is allowed inside Wendover buildings
• A credit card is needed to secure your reservation. Your card will not be charged at the time you submit your reservation.
• Bathrooms are shared.  There are 2 bathrooms and 4 guest rooms in the Big House and 2 bathrooms and 4 guest rooms in the Barn.
• Check-in Time: 3:00 PM or later (NO EXCEPTIONS)
• Check-out Time: 11:00 AM (All late check-outs will be charged for an additional day)
• Breakfast is served at 8:00 AM Promptly
• Phone service is limited to outgoing local calls or calls made with a calling card.
• Cell Phone service is very limited.
• We have a 48 hour cancelation policy. If you cancel after this deadline one night will be charged to your credit card.
